A Greeting that lasts a Lifetime!

Upon arrival to Camp Meeker, you will be greeted by our sign. The original sign was built in the 40's by the amazing Carl Maritizen . Tree bark was used for the lettering. It stood until 1979, when it was hit by a truck. It was then resurrected by Fire Chief, Fred Meyer, local architect Paul Timberman, Jerry Yost and friends.

This sign was created from a large beam that the Guerneville Safeway donated after a winter flood. Due to its prior inside use the beam Deteriorated quickly and after another 20 years needed to be replaced again.

Our current sign that was installed on Mothers day, 2001, in the pouring rain was quite a project! The Rec & Park District purchased a 1500 pound piece of Alaskan Spruce and then found a way to have it delivered to our tiny town. It was brought to the home of The Ford Family. Can you imagine this beam traveling up tower rd.? Then A.J. Ford with the help of Gary Helfrich redesigned the lettering. A.J. then transformed this piece of wood into a community treasure. It was then moved back into its resting spot with the help of many friends and neighbors. This current sign is planned to last a lifetime.
