When we sold engine 5580, a condition of the sale was that we deliver the merchandise. That was no small feat, since we sold the engine to the Bishop Volunteer Fire Dept. Not only was that several hundred miles away, it was also on the other side of the Sierra Nevada. The only person crazy enough to attempt this journey was our Captain Gary Helfrich, so off he went, backed-up by our Chief. Now one could have taken the long safe way, but that would be no fun, they decided to take Tioga pass through Yosemite National Park. Oh, and they thought they might as well see the sights along the way.
